Which Glass Is Suitable for 3D Engraving?

High-quality, transparent crystal glass that is free of inclusions, bubbles, or color gradients is particularly suitable for 3D engraving. So-called optical glass (often sold under names such as "K9 Crystal" or "Optical Crystal") has proven particularly effective. This glass is characterized by its very high purity and uniform structure, allowing the laser beam to be precisely focused within without causing distracting reflections or cracks.

Design with 3D Laser Engraving

Regular window glass or pressed glass is generally unsuitable for such engravings, as they contain small imperfections and stresses that can deflect the laser beam or lead to inaccurate engraving. Acrylic glass (Plexiglas) can also be engraved, but it doesn't achieve the same brilliance and depth as real crystal glass and usually appears less elegant.

The right glass is therefore crucial for ensuring the laser dots appear clear and high-contrast , creating a three-dimensional motif that appears to float freely within the cube or block. High-quality crystal glass also has the advantage of being particularly hard and scratch-resistant, ensuring the engraving remains permanently protected inside – without fading or wearing off.

In short: For professional 3D engravings , optical, colorless crystal glass is used almost exclusively, as only this offers the necessary purity and quality for razor-sharp results.
